Japanese PM Takaichi's Public Support Soars to 69.9 Percent

(MENAFN) Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi's administration has witnessed a notable popularity boost, with public backing reaching 69.9%—a 5.5-percentage-point jump from measurements taken immediately following her assumption of office last month, a Japanese news agency survey revealed Sunday.

The two-day polling effort, launched Saturday, discovered that 60.4% of participants favor increasing military expenditures to strengthen Japan's defensive capabilities. Additionally, 48.8% expressed support for activating the nation's collective self-defense rights should a Taiwan crisis materialize.

Resistance to these policy positions registered at 34.7% and 44.2%, respectively.

Takaichi informed parliament earlier this month that any Chinese military aggression toward Taiwan, including maritime blockades, might qualify as a "survival-threatening situation"—a legal threshold permitting Japan to exercise collective self-defense authority.

Concerning domestic policy matters, 65.0% of survey participants characterized the government's response to escalating bear-human confrontations as inadequate.

Polling data additionally indicated Takaichi's Cabinet faces a 16.5% disapproval rate.
