Illegal Israeli settlers set up outpost in East Jerusalem area

(MENAFN) Illegal Israeli settlers began constructing a new settlement outpost on Palestinian land in Anata, east of occupied East Jerusalem, on Sunday, according to local human rights reports.

The Bedouin rights group Al-Baidar said the settlers set up temporary structures and laid foundations for makeshift homes near the Bedouin communities of Abu Ghaliya and Al-Ara’ara.

The organization warned that the expansion could displace local Bedouin communities and limit Palestinian access to lands and pastures used for grazing and agriculture.

Al-Baidar described the development as part of a “systematic policy aimed at imposing control over the Palestinian land to expand the colonial presence in the area.”

The Palestinian Authority’s Colonization and Wall Resistance Commission reports that Israeli settlers have created 114 outposts since the Gaza conflict in October 2023.

In July, the International Court of Justice issued a landmark opinion declaring Israel’s occupation of Palestinian territory illegal and calling for the removal of all settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem.
