Nine people go missing after Chinese fishing boat flipped off S. Korea
(MENAFN) A Chinese fishing vessel overturned Monday near South Korea’s southwestern coast, leaving nine crew members unaccounted for.
Two of the 11 people aboard were rescued by a passing cargo ship. The 99-ton vessel flipped roughly 150 kilometers (93 miles) southwest of Eocheong Island at 08:53 local time, according to the Gunsan Coast Guard.
South Korean authorities dispatched four patrol ships and helicopters to search for the missing crew.
This incident follows a similar accident on Sunday, when another Chinese fishing boat capsized near Gageo Island. Three crew members went missing, two were reported in cardiac arrest, and six were rescued.
