(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) Egypt's Health Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Khaled Abdel Ghaffar met on Sunday with representatives of US-based medical supplies manufacturer Merit to discuss cooperation on local manufacturing and health sector development, the Ministry of Health confirmed.

The meeting took place at the ministry's headquarters in the New Administrative Capital, focusing on strategies to produce medical devices and supplies domestically to meet national demand while laying the groundwork for future exports. According to Ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the initiative aligns with Egypt Vision 2030, aiming to drive economic growth and healthcare improvements.

Abdel Ghaffar stressed that localizing medical industries is a key pillar of the country's health sector plan. He described engagement with Merit as a strategic step toward self-sufficiency, strengthening Egypt's role as a regional hub for medical manufacturing across the Middle East and Africa, and reducing dependence on imports.

Discussions also covered workforce development, including training and capacity-building programs designed to equip healthcare professionals with skills aligned with global technological standards.

Merit representatives welcomed the government's support for the medical industry and reaffirmed their commitment to Egypt's localization efforts, citing the country's strategic location and market potential as key advantages for manufacturing and export activities.
