Russia, Mali ink deal to boost ties in music, education, research
(MENAFN) A new collaboration between Russia and Mali is set to enhance ties in music education, research, and cultural exchange, following the signing of a formal agreement between two prominent conservatories.
The ceremony took place on Thursday in Bamako, bringing together the Tchaikovsky Moscow State Conservatory and the Balla Fasséké Kouyaté Multimedia Conservatory of Arts and Crafts, according to reports.
Alongside the agreement, the Russian delegation organized master classes, joint performances with local musicians, and a concert that blended classical and traditional music. The events attracted diplomats, journalists, and business figures.
The concert, held at the International Conference Center in Bamako, commemorated the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Russia and Mali. During the performance, Russian Ambassador to Mali Igor Gromyko emphasized the increasing momentum in cultural and humanitarian collaboration between the two nations.
He highlighted a key September meeting in St. Petersburg between Mali’s Minister of Handicrafts, Culture, Hotel Industry, and Tourism Mamou Daffé and Russian Minister of Culture Olga Lyubimova. “Our cultural and humanitarian cooperation has finally gained momentum,” Gromyko said.
Expanding educational cooperation in the Sahel region, Russia also inaugurated a Center for Open Education (COE) in Burkina Faso this week. Operated by South Ural State Pedagogical University and based at the Russian House in Ouagadougou, the center is designed to support students from the Sahel region who wish to study in Russia or learn the Russian language.
Officials described the initiative as “vivid proof” of the commitment of both countries to fostering long-term, mutually beneficial partnerships.
