I am a historian of environmental health in colonial South Africa who currently works on water management and urban public health in the nineteenth-century Cape Colony and Natal. As someone who aims to speak to different kinds of audiences, I have published in multiple academic and public-facing outlets, including but not limited to The Daily Maverick, the South African Historical Journal, Environment and History, and the Baltimore Sun. Each of these publications uses history as a lens through which to understand the contemporary moment in South Africa and beyond.
