Main Peshawarkurram Highway Closed For One Year, Thousands Facing Severe Hardship
The main highway connecting Kurram district with Peshawar has been closed for one year, causing severe difficulties for the public. The closure has led to shortages of food items and medicines, and patients are losing their lives.
According to sources, more than 500 people have been killed and injured in various terrorism incidents in Kurram district during the past year. After the latest incidents of terrorism, alternative routes have also been closed, increasing public hardship.
Member of the National Assembly from Kurram and parliamentary leader of Majlis Wahdat Muslimeen, Engineer Hamid Hussain, said that due to unrest, people's lives have become miserable, while no effective measures from the government for peace are visible.
According to Azmat Ali Zai, coordinator of the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan, more than 200 people, including children, have lost their lives due to road closures and the absence of medical facilities. He said successive terrorism incidents have deprived the people of Kurram of both food and medicine.
Azmat Ali Zai further said that four people have been killed in terrorism incidents in Upper and Lower Kurram during the past three days, reflecting the deteriorating law and order situation in the area.
