Speeding Train Kills Six Women in India

(MENAFN) Six women lost their lives after being struck by a high-speed train at a railway station in Uttar Pradesh, northern India, on Wednesday, local police authorities have confirmed.

The fatal incident unfolded at Chunar railway station located in Mirzapur district, where the victims exited their train carriage on the tracks side rather than disembarking onto the designated passenger platform, according to police reports.

The women were struck and killed instantly as the oncoming train traveled through the station at high velocity, witnesses indicated. Emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after the tragedy occurred, but all six victims were pronounced dead.

In an official statement, the North-east Central Railway confirmed the deaths of six passengers in an official statement.

Railway officials are investigating the circumstances surrounding why the passengers chose to exit on the dangerous track side instead of using the proper platform exit. Indian railways have repeatedly issued safety warnings about the dangers of crossing tracks or exiting trains on the wrong side.

The tragedy highlights ongoing safety concerns at India's sprawling railway network, which transports millions of passengers daily across the country. Authorities have not yet released the identities of the deceased women pending family notification.

Local police have registered a case and launched a full investigation into the incident to determine whether any safety protocols were violated.
