U.S. Leads UN Security Council Talks on Gaza Resolution
(MENAFN) The U.S. mission to the UN announced on Wednesday that Ambassador Michael Waltz had gathered a high-level session with the ten elected members of the UN Security Council to deliberate on an upcoming resolution concerning Gaza.
In addition, the United States invited representatives from Egypt, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and the United Arab Emirates to take part in the discussions, according to a statement released by the mission.
The mission emphasized that their involvement demonstrated “regional support for the resolution” and highlighted a mutual commitment to promoting peace and stability in Gaza.
The proposed resolution endorses the formation of a Board of Peace and authorizes the deployment of an International Stabilization Force—two central elements of U.S. President Donald Trump’s 20-point Gaza plan, the statement explained.
This initiative aims to ensure the continuous flow of humanitarian assistance, secure the release of all hostages, and lay the foundation for enduring security and prosperity across the region.
"Under President Trump’s bold leadership, the United States will again deliver results at the UN – not endless talk. The parties have seized this historic opportunity to finally end decades of bloodshed and make the president’s vision of lasting peace in the Middle East a reality," the mission stated.
Earlier reports from local media indicated that the United States had already circulated a draft version of the resolution among Council members, proposing the establishment of an international security force in Gaza with an initial mandate of at least two years.
