Putin appoints deputy Chief of staff to head Russia’s G20 delegation

(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed an order designating the deputy head of the presidential administration to head Moscow’s delegation at the upcoming G20 summit in South Africa, according to reports.

The government-issued order assigns Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Executive Office, Maxim Oreshkin, to lead Russia’s delegation to the 20th G20 summit in Johannesburg, scheduled for Nov. 22–23. The delegation will also include Deputy Foreign Minister Aleksandr Pankin, Deputy Finance Minister Ivan Chebeskov, and Russia’s G20 Sherpa, Svetlana Lukash.

The Kremlin previously announced that Putin would not personally attend the summit but emphasized that Russia would maintain high-level representation. Similarly, U.S. President Donald Trump confirmed he will not attend, with Vice President JD Vance representing Washington instead.

Finnish President Alexander Stubb suggested on Monday that Putin and Trump could meet again during the Johannesburg summit. The two leaders last convened in August in Alaska, following the cancellation of a planned summit in Budapest focused on the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
