Election races in US states remain competitive ahead of elections

(MENAFN) Key political contests in New Jersey, Virginia, and New York City are shaping up to be fiercely competitive ahead of Tuesday’s elections, with Democrats maintaining slight leads as final polls point to narrowing margins, according to reports released Sunday.

In New Jersey, the governor’s race remains extremely close. A recent AtlasIntel survey conducted between October 25 and 30 shows Democrat Mikie Sherrill ahead of Republican Jack Ciattarelli by just 0.9 percentage points—50.2% to 49.3%—well within the poll’s 2-point margin of error, according to reports. The results, gathered from over 1,600 likely voters, reflect an almost even division across the state.

Former President Barack Obama joined Sherrill at a November 1 rally, underscoring how crucial the race is for Democrats. Reports also noted that Democrats are slightly exceeding their 2024 early voting performance, with mail-in ballots showing the party ahead of Republicans by more than 41 points, compared with a 39-point lead at the same point last year.

In Virginia, Governor Abigail Spanberger appears to be leading comfortably in her reelection bid. A Hill/Emerson poll gives her 56% support, compared to 44% for Republican Winsome Earle-Sears. However, the attorney general race is much tighter, with Democrat Jerra Jones holding 51% to incumbent Jason Miyares’ 49%. Early voting data shows stronger Democratic turnout compared with 2024, though party officials have cautioned that Election Day could still bring major shifts in results.

Meanwhile, in New York City’s mayoral race, AtlasIntel polling indicates incumbent Zohran Mamdani leading with 41%, followed by former Governor Andrew Cuomo at 34%, and Republican Curtis Sliwa trailing at 24%.

Overall, the final wave of polling suggests that Tuesday’s elections will feature some of the most closely watched—and potentially unpredictable—races of the year.
