Iran Condemns U.S. Nuclear Test Plan As“Irresponsible Threat” To Global Peace

(MENAFN- Khaama Press) Iran's foreign minister condemned U.S. President Donald Trump's decision to resume nuclear weapons testing, calling it a reckless, dangerous move that threatens global peace and security.

Iran's Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi on Friday condemned U.S. President Donald Trump's announcement on resuming nuclear weapons testing, calling it a“dangerous and regressive act” that threatens international peace and security. His remarks were shared in a statement on X.

Araghchi said Washington's decision marked a major setback for global non-proliferation efforts, describing it as“a reckless move by an armed bully.” He added that relaunching nuclear tests violates the spirit of international agreements aimed at curbing the spread of weapons of mass destruction.

He further criticised the U.S. government for what he called hypocrisy, saying the same country that demonises Iran's peaceful nuclear programme is now preparing to resume nuclear weapons testing.“The bully who brands Iran's peaceful nuclear efforts as 'evil' is openly reigniting an arms race,” he wrote.

The foreign minister accused the U.S. of being the“world's most dangerous proliferator of nuclear weapons” and warned that such actions risk destabilising global security architecture. He urged the international community to take a firm stance against what he described as Washington's disregard for international law.

Araghchi's comments came after Trump said he had ordered the Pentagon to restart nuclear weapons tests, citing the need to match other nations'“strategic capabilities.” The decision drew sharp criticism from European allies and non-proliferation advocates.

Analysts said Tehran's condemnation underscores renewed tensions between Iran and the United States amid escalating rhetoric over nuclear programmes. Observers noted that both sides have hardened their positions, raising fears of a deeper standoff.

Diplomats in Vienna and Geneva warned that any return to nuclear testing by a major power would undermine decades of disarmament progress. They urged Washington and Tehran to recommit to dialogue and uphold their obligations under international nuclear treaties.
