Worldwide Air Travel Climbs 3.6 Percent in September

(MENAFN) Worldwide air passenger demand climbed 3.6% year-over-year in September 2025, propelled primarily by robust international travel recovery, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) announced Thursday.

Industry capacity, calculated in available seat kilometers, expanded 3.7% during the period, marginally exceeding demand increases. The sector's aggregate load factor registered 83.4%, slightly below the prior-year level.

"Solid international demand drove 90% of September's 3.6% overall growth," stated IATA Director General Willie Walsh. "Importantly, the capacity expansion slightly nudged ahead of demand growth at 3.7%."

Cross-border passenger traffic jumped 5.1% in September versus the corresponding month in 2024, while domestic demand advanced a modest 0.9%.

Walsh projected continued expansion despite "severe" constraints from "unresolved supply chain issues."

"With November flight schedules indicating a 3% expansion from last year, airlines are gearing up for sustained growth into the year-end holiday season," he added.
