(MENAFN) Former South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol voluntarily presented himself to a special counsel team on Wednesday, just hours before authorities were set to enforce a court-issued warrant for his detention, according to reports.

Yoon, who remains in custody, arrived at the office of Special Counsel Cho Eun-suk to face questioning regarding accusations that he attempted to impose martial law and ordered a “provocative” drone operation toward North Korea last year.

Assistant Special Counsel Park Ji-young stated that the summons came after a warrant was issued on October 1. As officials at the Seoul Detention Center prepared to execute the warrant Wednesday morning, Yoon indicated his willingness to cooperate.

The former president had previously ignored prosecutor summonses on September 24 and 30.

Investigators are examining claims that Yoon orchestrated drone flights into North Korean territory in October with the intention of provoking a retaliatory response, which he allegedly planned to use as justification for declaring martial law. He also faces insurrection charges linked to the proposed martial law decree and has been detained since his second arrest on July 10.

Yoon’s request for bail last month was denied by the court.

Separately, a Seoul court on Wednesday rejected an arrest warrant for former Justice Minister Park Sung-jae, who had been implicated in Yoon’s attempted martial law actions.
