(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ANKARA, Oct 14 (KUNA) -- Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on Tuesday called for the implementation of a Gaza peace plan agreed on by world leaders amid a summit in the Egyptian Red Sea resort city of Sharm El-Sheikh.
A day after the talks yielded a comprehensive ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip, Erdogan told reporters on board a return flight from Egypt that Ankara was "highly enthusiastic about the establishment of a peace order in Gaza."
He went on to reiterate Turkiye's position on the Middle East conflict, saying the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with "full territorial integrity," based on 1967 border lines with East Jerusalem as its capital was the only viable solution.
The Turkish president highlighted the need to prop up reconstruction efforts in the Palestinian enclave, saying that Ankara aims to shore up international support for the Palestinians in a bid to ensure that the "Gaza genocide is not forgotten," state-run Anadolu news agency quoted him as saying.
World leaders on Monday signed an agreement during a summit in Egypt for a US-brokered peace plan aiming to put in place a definitive ceasefire in the Gaza Strip. (end)
