Melania Trump Reveals Direct Communication with Putin
(MENAFN) US First Lady Melania Trump revealed on Friday that she has maintained direct dialogue with Russian President Vladimir Putin concerning the situation of Ukrainian children who have been uprooted due to the ongoing conflict.
She stated that within the last day, eight of these children have been reunited with their families.
"Much has unfolded since President Putin received my letter last August, he responded in writing, signaling a willingness to engage with me directly, and outlining details regarding the Ukrainian children residing in Russia," she explained.
Melania Trump, speaking from the White House, emphasized that she and President Putin have kept an open line of communication centered on the well-being of these displaced children.
The First Lady noted that her envoy has been collaborating with Putin’s staff to facilitate the safe return of children to their families across Russia and Ukraine.
"In fact, eight children have been rejoined with their families during the past 24 hours," she said.
Russia has also "agreed to rejoin the individuals who have turned 18 within a short period of time," she emphasized.
"This remains an ongoing effort; plans are already underway to reunify more children in the immediate future. I hope peace will come soon, it can begin with our children."
The dialogue began in August, when President Donald Trump personally handed over the First Lady’s "peace letter" to Putin during their encounter in Alaska.
