Amman, Oct. 8 (Petra) – The Royal Jordanian Geographic Center (RJGC), the Department of Lands and Survey (DLS), and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) on Wednesday signed an agreement to launch the "Capacity Development Project for Implementing a Unified National Geographic Coordinate System for Efficient Land Management."
The agreement was inked by RJGC Director, Brigadier General Muammar Haddadin, DLS Acting Director General, Khaldoun Khalidi, and JICA Chief Representative in Jordan, Morihata Shingo.
The project, supported by JICA, aims to establish a unified national coordinate system aligned with the International Terrestrial Reference Framework (ITRF).
It seeks to enhance accuracy and consistency in cadastral surveys and land registration, thereby improving land governance and supporting sustainable urban development.
The three-year project will activate the use of reference stations for continuous monitoring across the Kingdom, establish a unified national data center, and provide advanced equipment. It will also build human capacity through training programs, seminars, and the exchange of expertise with Japanese institutions.
Haddadin and Khalidi expressed appreciation for Japan's continued support, stressing the importance of establishing permanent monitoring stations as a strategic step toward achieving sustainable development goals. They also highlighted the project's role in strengthening the national geospatial infrastructure to serve both public and private sectors.
Shingo underscored the importance of geospatial infrastructure in promoting sustainable urban development and economic growth.
