US, UK Officials Discuss Gaza Ceasefire Plan

(MENAFN) US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and UK Foreign Secretary Yvette Cooper recently engaged in a conversation about ways to bring an end to the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

During their discussion, they focused on President Donald Trump’s comprehensive 20-point ceasefire strategy, according to a statement released by the State Department on Tuesday.

According to Principal Deputy Spokesperson Tommy Pigott, the two foreign ministers "emphasized the importance of ending the war in Gaza by implementing President Trump’s 20-point plan for peace, securing the release of all hostages, and ensuring that Hamas has no role in Palestinian governance."

Their phone call highlighted shared goals of halting the violence, facilitating the safe return of hostages, and removing Hamas from political authority within Palestinian territories.

President Trump’s proposal, initially presented on September 29, outlines several key measures.

These include a prisoner exchange—freeing Israeli hostages in return for Palestinian detainees—a ceasefire agreement, dismantling Hamas’ military capabilities, and initiating the reconstruction of Gaza.

In addition to their Middle East deliberations, Rubio and Cooper also addressed the prolonged conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

They pledged to persist in their diplomatic initiatives “to bring the war to an end through a negotiated settlement and durable peace,” underscoring a joint commitment to conflict resolution and lasting stability, the State Department noted.
