Amman, Oct. 6 (Petra) – Minister of Government Communication and Government Spokesperson Mohammad Momani on Monday underscored the depth of Jordan-Syria relations and the importance of enhancing media cooperation, particularly in combating false and misleading information and exchanging expertise to boost professional standards.
The remarks came during a meeting at the Ministry of Government Communication headquarters in Amman with a delegation from the Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA), headed by Director General Ziad Mahameed, following the signing of a media cooperation agreement between SANA and the Jordan News Agency (Petra).
Momani welcomed the SANA delegation, noting that the agreement represents a milestone in Arab media cooperation, fostering professional communication and the exchange of expertise in media, technical, and technological fields. He emphasized that Jordanian-Syrian cooperation is critical in countering misinformation, highlighting media awareness as the first line of defense against rumors and targeted content.
He reiterated Jordan's commitment to supporting Syria's territorial integrity, stability, and security, affirming that His Majesty King Abdullah II continues to direct efforts to strengthen cooperation across multiple sectors. Momani added that Jordan maintains a balanced policy regarding the voluntary return of Syrian refugees and respects the Syrian people's national choices.
Mahameed praised Jordan and His Majesty King Abdullah II for their continued support of Syria and described the agreement with Petra as a key step in reinforcing joint media efforts. He highlighted the need for Arab media partnerships to curb misinformation, build public trust, and strengthen the international presence of Arab media.
Director General of the Jordan News Agency (Petra), Fairouz Mubaideen, said the agreement aims to advance cooperation in media and technical training, the exchange of news and journalistic materials, and joint efforts to combat misinformation.
