Russia, Ukraine Accuse Each Other of Launching Massive Attacks
(MENAFN) Tensions escalated overnight as Russia and Ukraine exchanged starkly conflicting reports of large-scale aerial assaults. According to Moscow, its air defenses successfully neutralized over 250 Ukrainian drones, while Kyiv reported relentless Russian bombardments across multiple regions.
The Russian Defense Ministry announced that its air defense forces intercepted and destroyed a staggering 251 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles during the night. This tally included 62 drones downed over the Black Sea and five more above the Azov Sea. The ministry further specified that these interceptions occurred across several areas, such as Crimea, Kursk, Belgorod, Voronezh, Nizhny Novgorod, and regions near Moscow.
Conversely, Ukrainian authorities reported a barrage of 762 Russian attacks targeting 17 communities within the Zaporizhzhia region over the last 24 hours. These strikes resulted in one fatality and left 11 others injured.
“The enemy carried out six airstrikes and over 500 drone attacks on civilian areas,” stated Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration. He also noted receiving 240 separate accounts detailing damage to residences, vehicles, and essential infrastructure.
Further north, in the Chernihiv region, officials revealed that Russian shelling damaged an energy installation overnight, leading to power outages. “At night, the enemy shelled the Ichnyan region,” said Chernihivoblenergo, the regional energy operator, confirming the strike on a key energy facility.
In southern Ukraine’s Odessa region, Governor Oleh Kiper reported that Russian “Shahed” drones targeted a civilian industrial site, causing a fire that authorities managed to extinguish swiftly. He emphasized that no casualties were recorded.
Given the ongoing conflict, independent verification of these claims remains challenging.
