UK Launches Project To Fend Off Laser Disruption Of Satellites


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) LONDON, Oct 3 (KUNA) -- Britain Defense Ministry declared on Friday launching a project to develop anti-laser technology to foil bids to damage disrupt satellites.
The ministry said in a statement that the new technology, developed by the UK Space Command, features high sensitive sensors that can determine type of the laser employed either on the ground or in the space; whether it is friendly or hostile too.
It has affirmed that the satellites are crucial for defense, conduct intelligence, surveillance and monitoring tasks. They also provide instant contacts for military platforms, the ministry said.
Twenty percent of the UK gross domestic product count on the military satellites, it said, adding that the space and defense sectors secured more than 42 billion sterling pounds (USD 56.5 billion dollars, for the British economy, with a 64 percent rise over the past ten years. (end)
