Amman, Oct. 2 (Petra) – The Ministry of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs said it is closely monitoring the status of Jordanians aboard the Global Sumud Flotilla bound for the Gaza Strip, which was intercepted by Israel in international waters.
The ministry stated that it holds Israel responsible for the safety of its citizens and warned against exposing them to any harm.
Ministry Spokesperson Fuad Majali confirmed that the Directorate of Operations and Consular Affairs is in direct contact with some of the Jordanian citizens to assess their conditions. The ministry is undertaking all necessary measures to ensure their safety, uphold their rights, and facilitate their return to Jordan.
Majali added that the ministry is ready to assist in the evacuation of citizens from friendly countries upon request.
He condemned the attack on the flotilla, describing it as a blatant violation of international law, a threat to freedom of navigation, and a serious danger to civilians' lives.
Majali emphasized the responsibility of the international community to enforce Israel's obligations under international law and humanitarian law, and called for lifting all restrictions on the entry of humanitarian aid into Gaza to address the severe humanitarian crisis caused by the Israeli aggression.
