Euro Area Unemployment Rate Rises To 6.3 Percent

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BRUSSELS, Oct 2 (KUNA) -- The European statistical office (Eurostat) said on Thursday that the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate in the euro area reached about 6.3 percent in August 2025, up from 6.2 percent in July 2025 and stable compared with August 2024.
The unemployment rate in the European Union stood at 5.9 percent in August 2025, remaining stable compared with July 2025 and August 2024.
Eurostat estimated that the number of unemployed persons in the EU reached around 13 million and 89 thousand, of whom 10 million and 842 thousand were in the euro area in August 2025.
Regarding monthly changes, the office said that compared with July 2025, the number of unemployed increased by about 39,000 in the EU and 11,000 in the euro area.
Compared with the same month last year, the number of unemployed rose by about 85,000 in the EU, while it decreased by around 15,000 in the euro area. (end)
