Energy Minister Urges Continued Readiness To Avoid Future Power Outages
(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency)
Irbid, Oct.2 (Petra) - Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Dr. Saleh Kharabsheh, and Chairman of Board of Commissioners of Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC), Ziad Sa'aideh, on Thursday checked on the electricity transformer stations and control center of Irbid Electricity Company.
During a visit to the transformer station of the new Princess Basma Hospital project, Kharabsheh stressed the facility's importance as "strategic and advanced," constituting a fundamental pillar for ensuring continuity of the hospital's electrical supply, which would serve the northern governorates and ensure sustainability and stability of the service.
At the main Sheikh Khalil transformer station, which supplies 25% of the governorate's electrical load, Kharabsheh pointed out that the recent heat wave revealed pressures and challenges on the Kingdom's electricity system.
Kharabsheh noted this situation prompted the ministry and the distribution and generation companies to enhance their "readiness" to address future conditions with the "highest degree of efficiency" and benefit from previous experiences in improving capacity to maintain electric supply.
The ministry, he noted, is following up with Jordan's distribution companies on the necessary maintenance and upgrades on power plants in preparation for the winter season.
The minister announced coordination is underway with all distribution and generation companies to raise their preparedness level to avoid future outages.
In turn, Sa'aideh said EMRC has begun inspection tours on the three distribution companies' stations, including the central governorates, aimed to assess their readiness and learn from emergency situations.
The Kingdom's electricity system is currently operating with "high efficiency and full readiness and is continuously monitored to ensure its sustainability and continuity in a sophisticated and safe way," he pointed out.
