KUWAIT, Oct 1 (KUNA) -- Kuwaiti Minister of State for Municipal Affairs and Minister of State for Housing Affairs Abdulatif Al-Mishari and Capital, Al-Asimah, Governor Sheikh Abdullah Salem Al-Ali Al-Sabah on Wednesday inaugurated the new Shuwaikh beach project, along 1.7 km.
As a modern waterfront and integrated recreational and sports destination in the heart of the capital, the project marks the start of efforts to develop several beaches and vital sites in the country, Al-Mashari said in a speech.
It aims to make public spaces more vibrant and service-oriented, he added, thanking National Bank of Kuwait (NBK) for its generous support, the Capital Governor for closely following up the project, and municipal leaders past and present for their contributions to its success.
For his part, Governor Sheikh Abdullah Salem said the project is an important step in the path of sustainable development, and it reflects the state's vision on enhancing the capital's modern image and providing integrated recreational facilities for citizens and residents.
He expressed appreciation to government agencies, Kuwait Municipality and the Ministry of Public Works for their significant efforts, commending the private sector's contributions, particularly NBK's active role.
Meanwhile, NBK Group Vice-Chairman and CEO Issam Al-Sager said the project stands as a model of successful public-private partnership and reflects a joint vision toward a more sustainable Kuwait that supports community health and well-being.
Al-Sager noted that NBK's commitment over more than seven decades extends beyond banking, with the bank leading national efforts to support community development through initiatives aimed at improving quality of life and protecting the environment.
He explained the Shuwaikh beach project celebrates Kuwait's coasts and heritage, offering future generations a modern, eco-friendly destination that allows families and youth to practice sports and enjoy nature in a safe and attractive setting.
As fruits of cooperation between Kuwait Municipality and NBK, the project includes wide green spaces, diverse sports facilities, and walking, jogging and cycling paths, in addition to recreational and children's play areas, and the restoration and development of basic facilities such as the mosque and restrooms.
