Mumbai, September 26, 2025 : Vietjet, one of Asia's fastest-growing air carriers, is charting a course towards the United States, with plans to launch direct flights and explore a potential listing on Wall Street. These ambitions were highlighted during a recent visit by Vietjet Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao to the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), where she was welcomed by NYSE President Lynn Martin.
The visit followed a major milestone in Seattle, where Dr. Thao, Vietnam's richest woman, celebrated the Vietjet's first Boeing 737-8 under a historic 200-aircraft deal valued at US$32 billion - the largest aviation contract between Vietnam and the United States.
Speaking at the NYSE, Dr. Thao emphasized Vietjet's twin strategy of expanding its international flight network while gaining access to global capital markets. While highlighting the growth of Vietnam's stock market, she noted the potential for a future listing on the NYSE not just for Vietjet but also for HDBank, where she serves as standing Vice Chairwoman.
"We will soon fly to the U.S., and we are also very excited to explore opportunities to raise capital in New York - the world's largest stock exchange," Dr. Thao said. "This is not only the aspiration of Vietjet and HDBank but also the dream of many Vietnamese enterprises seeking global integration."
According to its website, the NYSE hosts around 2,400 listed companies with a combined market capitalization of nearly US$29 trillion. Lynn Martin - only the second woman to serve as the exchange's president in its long history - reaffirmed the NYSE's commitment to supporting Vietnamese enterprises looking to enter the U.S. market.
Both Vietjet and HDBank are key constituents of Vietnam's VN30 Index, representing the country's top publicly traded companies that deliver strong returns for domestic and international investors. A dual listing on the NYSE, Dr. Thao said, would mark a significant step in their global expansion and boster Vietnam's profile in internation finance.
During the visit, Dr. Thao also joined the NYSE's symbolic closing bell ceremony, adding a memorable touch to a day that underscored Vietjet's rising ambitions in both aviation and finance.
As Vietjet accelerates its global journey with plans for U.S. operations, the airline is already strengthening its footprint in international markets, including India. For Indian flyers, Vietjet currently operates 10 direct routes connecting Delhi, Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Kochi, Hyderabad, and Bengaluru with Vietnam's major cities, including Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City.
