NEW DELHI, Sept 26 (KUNA) -- Kuwait Ambassador to India Mishal Mustafa Al-Shemali said on Friday that the World Food India 2025, which kicked off in New Delhi with the participation of 21 countries and 150 international participants, is a great platform for establishing partnerships with global food markets.
In a statement to KUNA, Ambassador Al-Shemali affirmed that this year's Indian global food expo, held from September 25 to 28, enjoys significant patronage and support from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, given its importance for economic development and investment in the food sector, and considering India's role as a major food production and export hub for the world.
This year's expo will focus on the sustainability of food markets, infrastructure for food production and agriculture, promoting innovations and ideas to maintain a favorable climate for agriculture, and focusing on developing food production technologies.
The Ambassador added that the food expo is a suitable platform for establishing strategic partnerships with global food markets, particularly with the Indian food market, which is one of the world's most important food baskets and contributes to global food security through abundant production and diverse exports.
In his remarks at the opening of the expo, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized that the event provides an opportunity for all stakeholders in the food sector including farmers, businesspeople, investors, and consumers to network, exchange experiences, and foster innovation.
The expo will highlight India's potential in the food-processing sector, promote food sustainability, and encourage the production of healthy and organic food.
Modi emphasized India's importance as a global investment destination in the food sector, citing its diversity, high demand, and large economy. He stated that India produces all types of grains, fruits, and vegetables, making it unique in the world. Modi stressed that India continuously contributes to global food security amid various challenges facing the world in the 21st century, noting that policies supporting farmers, livestock herders, and fishermen have enabled India to consistently increase its production capacity.
He pointed out that India is the world's largest producer of dairy products, accounting for 25% of global production, and is among the largest producers of millets, ranking second globally in rice and wheat production, while also making significant contributions to fruit, vegetable, and fish production.
The activities of the global event include panel discussions for business leaders, technical sessions, and exhibitions, along with various business networking programs, including meetings between private sector entities, private sector and government, and between governments. Participating countries include France, Germany, Iran, Australia, South Korea, Denmark, Italy, Thailand, Indonesia, Taiwan, Belgium, Tanzania, Eritrea, Cyprus, Afghanistan, China, and the United States.
