KUWAIT, Sept 26 (KUNA) -- His Highness the Amir Sheikh Meshal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah's speeches during regional and international have encapsulated Kuwait's genuine belief and support of the Palestinian people's rights.
His Highness's speech at the opening of the 45th Session of the Supreme Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), held in Kuwait last December, is one of the most recent examples of such stance, as His Highness urged the international community, particularly the UN Security Council, to "fulfill its responsibilities by ensuring the implementation of relevant resolutions, halting the violence, providing international protection for innocent civilians, and securing safe corridors for urgent humanitarian aid."
His Highness the Amir also reiterated "unwavering support to Palestine and to end the Israeli occupation, attain all their political rights, and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with international resolutions," in continuation of the country's effective diplomatic role in defending the Palestinian cause, especially in the last three years.
Kuwait's role as a supporter; both on humanitarian and diplomatic levels, became more prevalent after the October 7, 2023 instigation, said Kuwait University Political Sciences assistant professor Dr. Noura Al-Shuaibi.
On a humanitarian level, Kuwait mobilized a 50-plane air bridge and three aid-laden ships to Gaza, while fulfilling its commitments to the financially-struggling UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRAW), which contributed in shedding the light back on the humane aspect in international relations, Al-Shuaibi told KUNA.
Kuwait's wholesome stance instills its status as an advocate of humanity, morality and justice against strategic interests, she pointed out.
On his part, History professor Dr. Aayed Al-Juraid said that in the years 2023, 2024 and 2025, Kuwait have proven its moral obligation towards the Palestinian people; a policy since its independence in 1961.
Meanwhile, President of Kuwait Center for Documentation of Humanitarian Action (Fanar), Dr. Khaled Al-Shatti, recalled the "Kuwait By Your Side - Gaza" campaign last August, which saw KD 11.5 million ( USD 37.6 million) donated by more than 110,000 individuals, which truly reflected the implementation of His Highness the Amir's directives. That and some USD 112 million in aid, in addition to USD 30 million for UNRWA. (end)
