Traditional Franceukraine Forum Held In Paris
“France's support in the early months of the war helped shift the situation on the front lines. The promptness and relevance of its assistance - along with its broad scope - are what set France apart. When we speak of the Coalition of the Willing, we recognize France as one of its leaders. As a leading EU member, France effectively leverages EU mechanisms to provide aid and persuade other member states,” said Taras Kachka, Ukraine's Deputy Prime Minister for European and Euro-Atlantic Integration.
His counterpart in the French government, Minister for Europe Benjamin Haddad, emphasized that relations with Ukraine are strategic for France, as Ukraine's security is part of Europe's security and political sovereignty.
Haddad stated that Europe was living in an increasingly conflict-ridden and dangerous world, and that its first major test was unfolding on the eastern flank with Ukraine. He emphasized that the situation concerned the security of all of Europe, which Ukrainians were actively defending. He added that economic pressure on Russia through sanctions, the development of arms, and the Coalition of the Willing for security guarantees were all part of Europe's broader pursuit of strategic identity.
Special guest Alyona Getmanchuk, Head of Ukraine's Mission to NATO, spoke on the panel dedicated to transatlantic strategy, highlighting the growing importance of Ukraine's cooperation with the Alliance.
“We are witnessing a new role and new weight of NATO in many critically important issues for Ukraine. This includes ending the war, as the NATO Secretary General now participates in Coalition of the Willing meetings - meaning the coalition is not seen as a competitor. For the first time since the full-scale invasion, NATO is coordinating the delivery of lethal weapons to Ukraine. This is a very important milestone, visible through the PURL program,” Getmanchuk explained.
French participants in the forum included Brice Roquefeuil, Head of the Directorate for Continental Europe, French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs; Alice Rufo, Director General for International Relations and Strategy (DGRIS), French Ministry of the Armed Forces; and Vincent Guérend, Director for the European Union, French Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs.
