British Deputy PM Describes Situation In Gaza As Inhumane
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
NEW YORK, Sept 26 (KUNA) -- British Deputy Prime Minister David Lammy said that what is happening in Gaza is "inhumane" and cannot be defended or justified, stressing the need to end this situation immediately.
In a speech late Thursday during the general debate of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, Lammy affirmed his country's "support for Palestine because we believe in the principles of the United Nations Charter, equal rights, self-determination, and the dignity of all people."
He pointed out that the Israeli occupation authorities are escalating their military operation and displacing families time after time, explaining that ending these horrors lies only in a coordinated diplomatic solution to keep the dream of achieving peace alive.
He also stressed the need to prevent the annexation of territories, advance the peace process, end this horrific war, and "release the hostages, allow the entry of aid, and cease fire now."
The Deputy Prime Minister noted his country's recognition of the State of Palestine this week, pledging to continue efforts to ensure two states living side by side in peace and security.
On Sudan, Lammy affirmed his country's support for the Sudanese people in the face of "the conflict waged against civilians," out of a belief in the values of the United Nations Charter, human rights, and the pursuit of peace for all men and women. (end)
