One month to go until the 2025 Optimist Asian & Oceanian Championship in Mussanah
(MENAFN- Oman Sail ) 24 September 2025, Muscat – In exactly one month’s time, 180 sailors from 26 nations across Asia and Oceania will arrive in Oman for the Optimist Asian & Oceanian Championship. Kicking off on 25 October at Mussanah Sailing School, Barceló Resort, the week-long event promises high level competitive sailing from the region’s best young Optimist sailors.
This will be the second time Mussanah has hosted the event following the successful staging of the event in 2019, adding to Oman’s reputation as a world class international host venue.
Shaima Said Al Asmi, Oman Sail's Operations Executive and Optimist Asian & Oceanian Championship Project Manager, said, “It is a great honour for Oman Sail to host the 2025 Optimist Asian and Oceanian Championships for the second time. We have shown ourselves to be an exciting destination and exceptional host venue, and this year we are delighted to welcome so many young sailors from across the Asian and Oceanian continents to experience the perfect sailing conditions and excellent facilities at our Mussanah Sailing School.”
Racing will begin on 27 October and be held daily until the final day of competition on 31 October where the winners will be decided and receive their medals at the prizegiving and closing ceremony.
The Oman Sail Sailing School in Mussanah was designated a Category A High Performance Centre by the Asian Sailing Federation (ASAF) earlier this year, underlining the venue’s capability to host high-level international regattas, trailing and development clinics, and local, regional and national sailing events.
The 2025 Optimist Asian & Oceanian Championship is organised in collaboration with the Oman Marine Sports Committee and International Optimist Dinghy Association (IODA), and will be supported by Gold Partner QNB, Mazoon Dairy, Tanuf Water, Barceló Resort Mussanah and Visit Oman as Bronze Partners.
