Polish President Calls for UN Action Regarding Israel
(MENAFN) Polish President Karol Nawrocki urged Israel on Tuesday to adhere to international humanitarian law amid its military campaign against the Gaza Strip, while also calling on the UN to intervene.
Addressing the UN General Assembly in New York, Nawrocki stressed that Poland "continues to advocate for a two-state solution to the conflict in such a way as to give both Palestinians and Israelis the right to live in peace and security."
He encouraged the UN to implement practical measures to improve conditions in the region.
Turning to Ukraine, Nawrocki described Moscow's invasion as "the most serious conflict in Europe since World War II" and highlighted that it marks a critical shift in the international order.
He added, "The existing international order is crumbling before our eyes. The world has entered a new and dangerous era of rivalry between great powers breaking rules and testing how far they can go before someone says a clear enough stop."
Nawrocki also referenced a recent incident in Poland, noting that Russian drones struck Polish territory—a NATO member—for the first time since World War II, necessitating a military response.
"This was not a coincidence. It happened on orders issued in the capital of a country which is a permanent member of the Security Council," he stated.
