National Food Safety Conference Begins Tomorrow

Doha, Qatar: The National Food Safety Conference, set to begin tomorrow, on September 22, represents a pivotal milestone in Qatar's ongoing efforts to develop and strengthen its food systems while ensuring safety and sustainability.

Chairman of the Conference Organising Committee, Jaber Hassan Al Jaber emphasised that the conference reflects the integration of institutional roles to achieve a safe and sustainable food future.“This gathering is a cornerstone for exchanging expertise, showcasing best practices, and reinforcing Qatar's position as a leader in food security and safety,” he noted. The conference will be held on September 22 and 23, 2025, at Raffles Doha, bringing together ministers, senior officials, decision-makers, and experts from the health and food safety sectors.

Organised jointly by the Ministry of Municipality and the Ministry of Public Health, the conference aligns with the goals of Qatar National Vision 2030.

Over the course of two days, the conference will explore seven main themes. It will begin with a review of national and international food-related laws and regulations, placing special emphasis on the draft Food Law and the Amiri decision to establish the Food Safety Authority. It will also showcase advances in technology and innovation, including the electronic food monitoring system and the Smart Inspection Program.

The conference will address risk management by discussing systems of regulation that are based on risk assessment and management, while also examining the effects of climate change on food safety.

The discussions will also link food safety standards with concepts of sustainability and long-term food security. Emergency management and foodborne disease prevention will be a key focus, with sessions exploring best practices for both prevention and rapid response.

Deputy Chairman of the Conference Preparation Committee and Assistant Director of the Food Safety Department at the Ministry of Public Health Khalid Youssef Al Sulaiti, described the event as a national initiative reflecting Qatar's leadership's deep commitment to food safety.

“Ensuring food safety is a fundamental responsibility to protect the health and wellbeing of our society,” he said.

He added that the conference will highlight progress in legislative and executive frameworks, including the draft Food Law, the establishment of the General Food Safety Authority, and the launch of Watheq, a new international-standard electronic monitoring system.
Alongside the conference, an exhibition will feature 25 local and international companies presenting the latest technologies and solutions in food monitoring and safety.
