Borussia Dortmund Reveals Reviewing Felix Nmecha’s Social Media
(MENAFN) German football powerhouse Borussia Dortmund will conduct an internal review of the social media behavior of midfielder Felix Nmecha, after he sparked controversy online by expressing his grief over the killing of American conservative activist Charlie Kirk, according to several local sources.
On Friday, Nmecha shared a black-and-white image of Kirk on his Instagram stories with the caption: “Rest in peace with the Lord.”
The post reportedly received predominantly negative feedback on social media platforms.
Nmecha later modified the caption to emphasize Kirk’s family. “Celebrating the murder of a husband and a father of two, a man who peacefully stood up for his beliefs and values, is really evil and shows how much we really need Jesus Christ,” he wrote in a subsequent post.
In response to online backlash, the footballer defended his actions, stating that “it is humane to express condolences and that… should not be condemned.”
He also noted that he did not align with Kirk on “some issues” but stressed that “different political positions… are perfectly okay.” Ultimately, Nmecha removed all of his posts.
A German sports news service reported on Friday that Dortmund intends to review the posts and engage in a discussion with the player, clarifying that no disciplinary measures are currently planned.
