Lila Sciences Raises $235 Million To Build AI-Driven Scientific Superintelligence
September 15, 2025 by Sam Francis
Lila Sciences has announced the completion of a $235 million Series A funding round, co-led by Braidwell and Collective Global.
The round also included participation from Altitude Life Science Ventures, Alumni Ventures, ARK Venture Fund, Common Metal, Flagship Pioneering, General Catalyst, March Capital, the Mathers Foundation, Modi Ventures, NGS Super, the State of Michigan Retirement System, and a wholly owned subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA).
The Boston-based company, which emerged from stealth in March, is building what it describes as an end-to-end platform for“scientific superintelligence”. Its approach integrates artificial intelligence, software, and robotics to autonomously execute every step of the scientific method.
Geoff von Maltzahn, co-founder and CEO of Lila Sciences, said:“From the beginning at Flagship, we set out to build scientific superintelligence to solve humankind's greatest challenges – grounded in the conviction that AI can run every step of the scientific method.”
The company's core infrastructure is its“AI Science Factories”, facilities that combine AI, novel software, and custom hardware to generate hypotheses, design and run experiments, and iterate at scale. According to the company, these systems have already driven thousands of discoveries across life sciences, chemistry, and materials science.
Lila Sciences says its platform has demonstrated early applications in drug discovery, diagnostics, materials development, and energy systems. The company claims its AI agents can complete experimental workflows in hours that would traditionally take human teams days or weeks.
With the new capital, Lila plans to expand operations and open additional hubs in Boston, San Francisco, and London. These facilities will serve as dedicated environments for its AI Science Factories and interdisciplinary research teams.
Von Maltzahn said the financing represents“a commitment from us to turn it into reality”. He says:“Our goal is simple: increase the intelligence, scale, and speed of science so humankind can experience life-changing benefits derived from artificial intelligence.”
