Rubio Confirms Israel’s Strike on Qatar Won’t Alter Ties with US
(MENAFN) US Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated on Saturday that Israel’s assault in Qatar, which was directed at Hamas officials, will not influence the relationship between Tel Aviv and Washington.
"Obviously, we were not happy about it; the president was not happy about it," Rubio mentioned to journalists prior to his departure for Britain and Israel.
"It’s not going to change the nature of our relationship with the Israelis, but we are going to have to talk about it—primarily, what impact does this have" on diplomatic endeavors aimed at achieving a cease-fire in war-devastated Gaza, he added.
On Tuesday, Israel struck a residential complex in Doha that was sheltering Hamas leaders.
The offensive led to the deaths of five Hamas figures and a Qatari security personnel member, who at the time were deliberating over a fresh proposal introduced by the US to conclude the ongoing conflict in Gaza, where Israel has already killed over 64,000 individuals since October 2023.
Qatar, in collaboration with the US and Egypt, has played the role of mediator in efforts to bring an end to the war.
