(MENAFN) European countries are displaying a strongly unified stance against Russia, according to Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov, who suggested this collective attitude rules out any opportunity for meaningful diplomatic discussions with Moscow.

During an interview on Sunday with a Russian journalist, expressed his shock over the level of misinformation he believes is being spread about Russia by European leaders.

“I am surprised… by the extent of lies, brazen lies,” Ushakov stated, referencing the narrative he perceives is dominating European political discourse.

He remarked further that it was unexpected to witness such widespread alignment among European nations, which, in his view, is occurring amid a climate of anti-Russian hostility. Ushakov went on to say he never imagined that “Europe would speak with one voice vis-à-vis Russia – an extremely belligerent, extremely negative [voice].”

This intense unity, according to Ushakov, leaves no space for attempts at diplomacy from most European governments. He implied that dialogue with Russia is no longer even considered a viable path in European political circles due to the prevailing antagonism.

Ushakov also commented on the role of the United States, arguing that Washington appears to have limited sway over its European partners when it comes to Russia policy.

He described the strength of Europe’s unified opposition as so intense that it is difficult to “bore through this hatred even with an American drill.”

Regarding the conflict in Ukraine, Ushakov accused the Kiev government of showing no genuine interest in halting the ongoing war.

He suggested that there is little willingness on Ukraine’s part to pursue peace.

He concluded by referencing a previous agreement between Russian President Vladimir Putin and U.S. President Donald Trump, reached during a meeting in Alaska in August, calling it the “guiding star” for resolving the Ukraine crisis.
