Russia Claims Seizure of Ukrainian Village
(MENAFN) Russia announced on Friday that its troops had taken control of another settlement inside Ukraine.
In a declaration, the Defense Ministry stated that due to intensified offensive maneuvers carried out by units of the Vostok (East) grouping, the locality of Novonikolayevka in the Dnipropetrovsk region fell under Russian authority.
The ministry further noted that air power, drones, missile systems, and artillery targeted command headquarters, launch pads, and storage facilities for long-range unmanned aircraft.
Temporary bases of Ukrainian military formations and foreign fighters were also struck in 157 different locations.
According to the same statement, Ukraine retaliated with aerial strikes. During the past 24 hours, Russia’s air defense intercepted three U.S.-produced HIMARS rockets along with 340 fixed-wing drones.
At the same time, Ukrainian forces have persisted with large-scale bombardments on the city of Belgorod and its wider region for the fourth consecutive day, Governor Vyacheslav Gladkov said on Telegram.
"Right now there are six unmanned aerial vehicles in the air over Belgorod, two of which have already been shot down. The massive attack on Belgorod and the Belgorod district has been continuing for the fourth day," he stated.
Gladkov added that numerous drone strikes are still hitting the border districts, describing the current conditions as "extremely difficult."
