Russia, GCC States Condemn Israeli Attack On Qatar

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) MOSCOW, Sept 11 (KUNA) -- The GCC foreign ministers and the Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov on Thursday condemned in the strongest terms the attack carried out by the Israeli occupation forces against Qatar.

The GCC Secretariat General said in a statement that the GCC ministers and Lavrov expressed the robust condemnation in a joint statement released by the eighth ministerial meeting of the GCC-Russia Strategic Dialogue, held today in the Russian city of Sochi.
The Israeli occupation offensive that targeted residential facilities including residences for members of the Hamas movement politburo in Doha, during the holding of negotiations and resulted in a number of martyrs among personnel of the interior forces, several members of the movement and exposed civilians' lives to danger, constituted flagrant violation of international laws and norms and an attack on the sovereignty of the State of Qatar.
The attack constituted deliberate undermining of the diplomatic efforts aimed at achieving security and stability in the region.
The GCC ministers stressed that such actions require a clear and firm international stance that holds the international community accountable for its moral, political, and legal responsibilities and leads to effective measures to deter Israel and end its repeated violations of the principles of international peace and security.
The ministers also called on the international community and the Security Council to assume their responsibilities in halting these attacks and preventing their recurrence, stressing that the continuation of this approach will exacerbate tensions in the region and undermine the chances of achieving security and stability.
The ministers warned that the absence of a serious and decisive international stance would have serious repercussions for regional and international peace and security.(end) kns
