Macron Condemns Forced Displacement in Gaza
(MENAFN) French President Emmanuel Macron issued a strong caution late Monday against any post-conflict Gaza reconstruction strategy that includes forced population displacement, describing such an approach as a “dead end.”
He emphasized that any plan deviating from international norms would not produce viable results.
Following a phone conversation with Jordan's King Abdullah II, Macron posted on the social media platform X, operated by US tech company X, expressing their shared resistance to any proposal that would displace Gaza’s residents or place the area under international administration.
He warned that these ideas violate international law and would lead to failure.
"Together, we reaffirmed our firm opposition to any plan for the reconstruction of Gaza that would involve the forced displacement of its population or the placing of the territory under trusteeship. Such a proposal, contrary to international law, would lead only to a dead end," he wrote.
Macron confirmed that he is closely aligned with King Abdullah II in preparation for the upcoming Conference on the Two-State Solution, scheduled for September 22.
The event aims to forge what Macron described as a "credible perspective of hope" that could address the rightful demands of both Palestinians and Israelis.
The French leader also condemned Israel’s ground operation in Gaza City, deeming it intolerable and counterproductive.
He insisted that such aggressive actions would only prolong hostilities. "We also reiterated that Israel’s ground offensive on Gaza City is unacceptable, and that this headlong rush can only lead to an endless conflict. Peace does not arise from ruins — it is built on justice and dignity," he added.
Macron further underscored the urgency of securing a durable ceasefire, ensuring the freedom of all hostages, facilitating the broad delivery of humanitarian support into Gaza, and pursuing a lasting political resolution.
Concluding his remarks, Macron reaffirmed his commitment to the principle of coexistence between two nations.
"Two peoples, two States: this is the only path to a future of peace," he stated.
