Man arrested after crashing car into Russian Consulate General in Australia

Authorities in Sydney have detained a man after he drove a car through the gates of the Russian Consulate General on Monday morning, injuring a police officer in the process.

According to reports, New South Wales police were called to the consulate on Fullerton Street in Woollahra around 8 a.m. after a suspicious vehicle was spotted in the driveway. When officers approached the driver of a white Toyota Kluger SUV, he allegedly sped into the gates and onto the consulate grounds.

The 39-year-old man was taken into custody at the scene and transported to Surry Hills police station to assist with inquiries. Officials confirmed that no consulate staff were harmed during the incident.

A 24-year-old police constable sustained a cut to his hand and received treatment from paramedics. No other injuries were reported.

Video footage from the scene shows the SUV on the consulate lawn with broken glass in the front doors as officers examined the vehicle. The motive behind the crash remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing.
