Egypt: Global Effort Required To Halt Israeli Occupation's Violations In Gaza

CAIRO, Sept 1 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdulatty stressed the urgent need for concerted regional and international efforts to halt what he described as Israel's "blatant violations" in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.
This came during Abdulatty's meeting on Monday with US Senators Chris Van Hollen and Jeff Merkley, members of the Senate Appropriations and Foreign Relations Committees, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
The talks addressed means of enhancing bilateral relations between Egypt and the United States, with both sides expressing interest in expanding cooperation in the political, security, and military spheres, as well as boosting economic, trade, and investment ties.
Abdelatty reviewed the dire humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip, warning that conditions had reached the level of famine. He highlighted the joint Egyptian-Qatari proposal aimed at securing a ceasefire, ensuring the flow of humanitarian aid, and facilitating the release of hostages and detainees.
The minister urged the international community to intensify pressure on Israel to comply with international efforts aimed at ending the ongoing conflict. He warned against the potential expansion of military operations in Gaza and continued settlement activities in the West Bank, which he said undermine prospects for a two-state solution.
He also reaffirmed Egypt's categorical rejection of any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians from their land.
Abdulatty presented key elements of the Arab plan for early recovery and reconstruction in Gaza, as well as details of a conference Egypt plans to host following the establishment of a ceasefire.
The meeting also tackled the situation in Sudan. Abdulatty reiterated Egypt's support for Sudan's state institutions and underscored the importance of preserving the country's sovereignty and territorial integrity. He affirmed Egypt's readiness to engage with initiatives aimed at achieving an immediate ceasefire and alleviating the humanitarian suffering of the Sudanese people.
The two US senators shared impressions from their recent visit to the Egyptian cities of Arish and Rafah, where they witnessed Egypt's humanitarian efforts through the Egyptian Red Crescent's logistics center and the Rafah border crossing. They also observed the medical support provided to injured Palestinians in Egyptian hospitals.
Both senators commended Egypt's pivotal and constructive role in pushing for a ceasefire and in delivering critical humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza. (end)
