Anti-Dumping Duties Imposed On Acrylic Fiber, Epoxy Resin Imports For Five Years

(MENAFN- KNN India) New Delhi, Aug 22 (KNN) The Directorate General of Trade Remedies (DGTR) has recommended the imposition of anti-dumping duties for five years on imports of acrylic fibre and liquid epoxy resins, citing injury to domestic manufacturers from low-priced imports.

For acrylic fibre, duties ranging from USD 920 to USD 34 per metric tonne have been suggested on shipments from China, Thailand, and Peru, depending on the country of origin and manufacturer.

Imports of liquid epoxy resin from China, South Korea, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, and Thailand would attract duties between USD 34 and USD 286 per metric tonne.

The probe, initiated after complaints by domestic producers, found significant dumping of these products, which depressed local market prices and eroded profitability.

The DGTR noted that manufacturers suffered losses, including negative returns on investment and declining market share.

The trade body concluded that anti-dumping measures are necessary to offset the impact of dumping and restore fair competition, while also observing that such duties would not adversely affect downstream industries.

The final notification will be issued by the Department of Revenue's Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), which typically accepts DGTR's recommendations.

Acrylic fibre is widely used in the clothing industry, particularly for winter wear, with imports valued at USD 54.2 million in 2024–25.

Liquid epoxy resins, valued at USD 2.72 billion in imports, have broad industrial and consumer applications in construction, adhesives, coatings, composites, and electronics. China alone accounted for USD 769 million of epoxy resin shipments to India.
