Saudi Arabia Condemns Targeting Of Aid Convoy In Sudan

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) RIYADH, Aug 21 (KUNA) -- Saudi Arabia strongly denounced the targeting of three aid trucks belonging to the World Food Programme (WFP) in west Sudan yesterday.
The Kingdom also rejects any threats to the safety and security of civilians and workers of World humanitarian aid programs, the Saudi Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Thursday.
It calls on all Sudanese parties to adhere to the Jeddah Declaration which was signed on May 11, 2023, protect the civilians and safeguard the humanitarian aid routes.
It also stresses the importance of prioritizing what serves the Sudanese people and sparing them the scourge of war and internal conflict, according to the statement.
The WFP said a 16-vehicle aid convoy came under a drone strike and three lorries and were destroyed while en route to the famine-hit Darfur region, west Sudan. (end) ash
