Lebanon, Syria pledge to ease movement of goods, individuals across shared border
(MENAFN) Reports indicate that Syrian and Lebanese authorities have reached an agreement to simplify the movement of goods and people across their shared border, aiming to strengthen trade between the two countries, both facing ongoing crises.
Representatives of the Lebanese-Syrian Joint Technical Committee for Land Transport decided to reduce customs duties on vehicles and trucks crossing the land border and will explore the possibility of exempting trucks and public transport vehicles from entry and exit fees.
The committee also emphasized the importance of implementing a 1993 agreement designed to regulate and promote cross-border transport of people and goods.
These measures were finalized after a two-day meeting in Damascus focused on border traffic management, which concluded on Wednesday. The talks were part of broader efforts to facilitate freight and passenger movement, remove obstacles, enhance economic exchange, and respond to regional trade developments.
