(MENAFN) India’s ambassador to Russia, Vinay Kumar, described the relationship between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi as having “positive chemistry,” citing frequent meetings and regular phone calls between the two leaders. Kumar spoke on RT’s ‘Sanchez Effect’ on Tuesday, noting that both leaders are “very genuine people” and that their interactions convey a friendly, cooperative vibe.

The comments came ahead of Putin’s planned visit to Alaska to meet US President Donald Trump regarding the Ukraine conflict. Kumar also addressed recent US tariffs on Indian exports, imposed due to New Delhi’s continued purchases of Russian oil, describing India’s response as measured. He emphasized that India pursues trade decisions in its national interest and that buying Russian oil has contributed to global oil market stability.

Putin is expected to visit India later this year for an annual summit with Modi.
