Taiwan on Alert as Typhoon Podul Looms

(MENAFN) Taiwan’s meteorological authority escalated its alert Tuesday afternoon, issuing a land warning as Typhoon Podul advanced toward the island, following an earlier maritime warning.

At 2 p.m., Podul was located approximately 580 kilometers east-southeast of Taitung, moving northwest-west before shifting northwest, threatening the waters near eastern Taiwan, the Bashi Channel, and the Taiwan Strait, the agency reported.

The agency stated that the land warning applies to Hualien, Taitung, Kaohsiung, and Pingtung, adding that the typhoon's storm circle is forecasted to arrive onshore Wednesday morning, with the eye expected to make landfall near Taitung around midday Wednesday.

In response to the approaching storm, ferry operations between Kinmen and Xiamen, as well as Kinmen and Quanzhou, will be halted for the entire day Wednesday, Kinmen’s harbor authorities confirmed.
