Bannu: Martyrs' Families Announce Boycott Of Independence And Martyrs' Day Events
Families of martyred police personnel in Bannu have announced a complete boycott of all official Independence Day and Martyrs' Day events scheduled from August 4 to August 14. The decision was made through a joint declaration issued after a meeting of the affected families.
Speaking at the gathering, the families said they were recruited under the martyrs' package since 2016, but have yet to receive their constitutional and legal rights.
“Laying flowers on graves once a year or distributing sweets is not enough,” said a participant.“We are living human beings and deserve our rightful dues, not just prayers and broken promises.”

They urged the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Inspector General of Police to fulfill all commitments made under the martyrs' package, including payment of pending dues, government jobs, benefits, and other promised facilities.“We want to live with dignity,” they stated.
The families warned that although their protest is peaceful for now, it could expand across the province if their demands remain unmet.“This boycott is just the beginning, we will no longer remain silent,” they declared.
Responding to the concerns, RPO Bannu Sajad Khan said the region has a higher number of martyrs, which is why appointments under the martyrs' package were initially made on a temporary basis by the former IG of police.
However, efforts are now underway to regularize these appointments against their own quota, which has been increased from 5% to 12.05%.
The RPO added that DSP City and SP Investigation have already met with the families, and DPO Bannu will also be meeting them soon to update them on the progress and ongoing correspondence.
He further stated that efforts are being made to increase the number of quota-based seats to ensure justice for as many affected families as possible.
