UAE Expresses Condolences To Philippines Over Typhoon Co-May Victims

The UAE extended its heartfelt condolences and expressed solidarity with the Republic of the Philippines following the devastation caused by Typhoon Co-May. The storm brought heavy rainfall and battered Luzon Island, resulting in multiple deaths, injuries, and widespread damage.

In an official statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Mofa) conveyed its sympathy to the families of the victims, as well as to the Philippine government and the Filipino people. The Ministry also wished a swift recovery to all those who were injured in the disaster.

According to the Philippine National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), at least 25 people have died as of 6am Friday (July 25) due to the combined impact of the southwest monsoon (locally known as habagat), and three other tropical cyclones. The figures were reported by inquirer.

In the capital, Manila, floodwaters from relentless rains brought the city to a standstill earlier this week. The Marikina River overflowed after a night of intense rainfall, prompting authorities to suspend classes and close government offices across Manila and nearby provinces.

The Philippines is no stranger to such weather events. The country is struck by an average of 20 storms or typhoons each year, with its most vulnerable communities often bearing the brunt of the destruction.

Experts warn that climate change is intensifying these storms, making them deadlier and more destructive as global temperatures continue to rise.
