Egypt’s Environment Minister steps down to start new UN lead role
(MENAFN) Egypt’s Environment Minister Yasmine Fouad has officially stepped down from her position in order to begin her new role as Executive Secretary of the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD), according to announcements from the Egyptian cabinet.
The resignation was accepted by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, who has temporarily delegated the responsibilities of the Environment Ministry to Manal Awad, the current Minister of Local Development, as stated in the cabinet’s release.
Madbouly described Fouad’s new appointment as "a testament to her capability to assume major responsibilities to support the international organization's efforts" and "a culmination of her long-standing efforts and expertise in the field."
In a separate message issued by the Environment Ministry, Fouad shared her appreciation for the backing she received from President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi in advancing environmental initiatives. She also acknowledged her collaborative work with Prime Minister Madbouly and other ministries, and expressed her full confidence in Awad’s ability to carry forward Egypt’s environmental agenda.
